Moamer Kasumović: Dedication of the Crew Was on Such a High Level That I Had The Feeling We Were Doing a High Budget Film

Moamer Kasumović, born in Bijelo Polje in 1981, is Bosnian and Herzegovinian actor who played in multiple films including OUR EVERYDAY LIFE by Ines Tanović, A THOUSAND by Nenad Äurić and ĆEFURJI RAUS by Goran Vojnović.

This year, we will have an opportunity to watch him in ADRIFT by Caleb Burdeau.

Do you remember when you decided to become an actor? How everything started?

All of us, somewhere deep inside, know what we want to be when we grow up. I remember that I enjoyed entertaining the others when I was a child, making a puppet theatre for the neighbourhood children etc. Unfortunately, the puberty came after that and I closed a bit. However, when you love something and when you have talent for that, you are unable to let go of it all. So, at the end of the high school I managed to find the courage to stand on the scene of Academy of Perfoming Arts in Sarajevo and I passed the entrance exam at the Acting Department.

Why did you decide to enrol at the Academy in Sarajevo?

I already graduated from the high school in Sarajevo, so it was the most logical thing to do. However, that was not the only reason. I chose it because of its great reputation. Although it is relatively young compared to the academies in Belgrade and Zagreb, it managed to prove itself as an institution able to “produce” excellent professionals.

You became famous as Damir Fazlinović from CRAZY, CONFUSED, NORMAL series. How did that role mark your carrier?

Luckily and unfortunately a lot. When joking I like to say that is the role that made me move away to the village. Television is the strongest medium and she can prove to be double edged dagger.

In BH Film Program, audience will have an opportunity to see film ADRIFT in which you are playing the lead role. How did that cooperation happen and how it was to work on that project?

Film was shot in 2014 when Caleb Bordou worked at Bela Tarr’s filmfactory. That where it all started. One day Caleb came to me with the script and asked if I would like to work with him. I have to admit that working on ADRIFT was completely different from everything I experienced before. We shot the film “guerrilla style”. We financed the film through Kickstarter. The project was very demanding location-wise because we shot in Venece, Rome and Puglia and all of those places are on the different sides of Italy. At the same time

dedication of the crew was on such a high level that I had the feeling we were doing a high budget film.

What are your experiences with differences in working with local and international directors and productions?

Basically there is not much difference when it comes to the production. The only difference is in who has more money. And when it comes to directors every film, local or international, is different because every director has his or her way of working with the actors. With some of them you connect instantly, with some of them it goes a bit harder.
