Eid with Zeko, Braco and Švabo

After the premiere of feature film THE FROG by Elmir Jukić in Raiffeisen Open Air on 15th of August, film will be screened tonight at 22:00 in Cinema 4 of Multiplex Cinema City as part of the BH Film Program.

The debut film by Elmir Jukić, the director who is well known to bh. audience for the (now already) cult serial LUD, ZBUNJEN, NORMALAN, is a film adaptation of a theatre success “The Frog” written by Dubravko Mihanović that had its premiere at Chamber Theatre ’55 in December of 2008.

Film, in a way, manages to stay a chamber piece. Two brothers Zeko (Emir Hadžihafizbegović) and Braco (Aleksandar Seksan) spend most of the time inside of Zeko’s barber shop with their friend Švabo (Mirsad Tuka), talking about all the ways their lives went wrong and constantly returning to the war as one of the main reasons for them not being able to live normally in the present. Zeko has a severe case of PTSD, Braco can’t forgive him for going to war and leaving the family alone and Švabo was away during the war so he is not allowed to comment at all. Up in the air stays the question if this Eid will help them change their lives for better.

Jukić wisely decided to keep the actors from the play in the movie, allowing them to use the experience they gained by portraying the same characters in theatre and make accurate and well balanced film roles most of the time.

Film is characterized by minimalism. There are not many locations, nor a lot of changes and Jukić decides to use minimalist film techniques to tell the story making them non-invasive and approachable to the film audience regardless of the film’s dark topic.
