The Association of Filmmakers in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the certified professional organization for Bosnia and Herzegovina, organized the selection. The committee, consisting of director Nermin Hamzagić, casting director and production coordinator Narcisa Cvitanović, producer Amira Kudumović, screenwriter Melina Alagić, and production designer Emina Kujundžić, decided on the Bosnian and Herzegovinian candidate through voting.
MY LATE SUMMER is a comedic drama about a young woman who comes to a remote island to resolve a family inheritance issue. In the whirlpool of newfound emotions and a series of unforeseen situations, Maja will finally confront questions from her past. The search for inheritance becomes a search for personal identity and forgiveness.
MY LATE SUMMER opened the thirtieth Sarajevo Film Festival. The film stars Anja Matković, Uliks Fehmiu, Goran Navojec, Mario Knezović, Marija Škaričić, Mirela Brekalo, Snježana Sinovčić, Luka Juričić, Boris Ler, Ivana Roščić, Jadranka Matković, and many others. The film was created based on a screenplay by Anja Matković, Nikola Kuprešanin, and Danis Tanović and is directed by Danis Tanović. The rest of the film’s creative team includes cinematographer Miloš Jaćimović, set designer Veronika Radman, editor Redžinald Šimek, costume designer Dubravka Skvrce, composer Lavinia Tanović, and makeup artist Silvija Bradica.
MY LATE SUMMER was produced by Propeler Film (Croatia), Tangaj Production (Romania), Obala Art Centar (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Baš Čelik (Serbia), and Tramal Films (Slovenia). The film was created with support from the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Sarajevo Canton, the Sarajevo Film Foundation, the Romanian Film Centre, the Film Center Serbia, the Slovenian Film Centre, and the MEDIA Subprogram of the Creative Europe Programme for project development. The co-producer of the film is BH Telecom. The producers are Lana Matić, Boris T. Matić, Jelena Mitrović, Srdan Golubović, Mirsad Purivatra, Jovan Marjanović, Anamaria Antoci, Miha Černec, and Jožko Rutar.
The Association of Filmmakers in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been nominating films for the Academy Award in the Best International Feature Film category for 23 years. Based on the Association’s nomination, Danis Tanović’s film NO MAN’S LAND won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2002, and the Bosnian and Herzegovinian candidate for 2020, QUO VADIS, AIDA?, was nominated for this prestigious award. The Oscar is awarded by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) and is one of the most significant awards in the world of film, with the ceremony being one of the most-watched television events of the year in the USA and globally.
