VELJKO BULAJIĆ

Born in 1928 in Vilusi, Montenegro. He completed high school in Sarajevo and a law degree in Zagreb. Before pursuing film studies at Centro Sperimentale in Rome, he worked as a journalist. He began his film career directing documentaries. His debut fiction feature, TRAIN WITHOUT A TIMETABLE, won two Golden Arena awards, Jelen Award and Slavica Award of the Pula Film Festival, as well the City of Zagreb’s Film Award. His subsequent films were also highly successful and were screened in film festivals throughout Yugoslavia and abroad. His WAR (1960) received the Golden and Silver Arena awards in Pula, BOOM TOWN (1961) won the Golden Arena in Pula while KOZARA (1961) won the Golden Arena in Pula, Golden Medal in Moscow and Film Critics Award in New Delhi. Documentary film SKOPLJE 63 (1964) earned him an award of the Belgrade Film Festival, the Golden Lion Award of the Venice Film Festival, Cidalc Award, UNESCO award, Golden Nymph in Monte Carlo, an award in Edinburg and the City of Zagreb’s Film Award, while his BATTLE OF NERETVA was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar in 1970.
