GOJKO ŠIPOVAC
GOJKO ŠIPOVAC

Born in 1926 in Nevesinje, Bosnia-Herzegovina. He started making films already in 1953 in the early days of Bosnia-Herzegovina’s cinema. He directed numerous short, documentary and narrative feature films. His most notable titles include short documentaries WATER (1959), BY OUR OWN MEANS (1961) and IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT (1962). He made the leap to narrative film alongside Šiba Krvavac by directing THE SWAMP segment of the 1964 omnibus film VORTEX. After that he directed narrative features THE LUCKY DIE TWICE (1966), NUN AND A COMMISSAR (1968) and SALT (1973). He worked as the first assistant director on Tomo Janić’s BLACK PEARLS and Hajrudin Šiba Krvavac’s WALTER DEFENDS SARAJEVO. He was a member of the Association of Filmmakers of Bosnia-Herzegovina for many years and was presented with the Association’s Ivica Matić Award for contribution to Bosnia-Herzegovina’s cinema in 2007. He died in 2012 in Sarajevo.
