Synopsis:
In 2,500 years since its establishment, the city of Titograd (today’s Podgorica) has lived four different lives and changed its name four times. Its first name was Duklja, followed by Ribnica, Podgorica and finally Titograd. At different times in its history, the city was ruled by Romans, Slovenes, Ottoman Turks, Montenegrins and Austro-Hungarians. Now known as Titograd, it is a completely new city built on the foundations of Podgorica. It was named after Marshal Tito and in 1949 it became the capital of the Socialist Republic of Montenegro.
