European Film Challenge

The Association of Film Workers, as a partner organization, applied to the MEDIA Fund with the project European Film Challenge. MEDIA approved the project, and for the third year in a row, participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina will have the opportunity to take part in this project.

Indeed, Bosnia and Herzegovina, together with the Association of Film Workers, is one of the eight participating countries in the European Film Challenge. The project is led by The Film Agency (Spain, Portugal, Italy), and other partners include Kinobize (Latvia), Kino Metropolis (Lithuania), Beldocs (Serbia), and Blink 42-21 (North Macedonia).

The project works by having individuals aged 18 and over from participating countries watch 10 European films and collect points in the process. The films can be watched on any legal platforms, in cinemas, or at festivals, and the method of watching the film determines the number of points a participant receives. A limited number of points are also gained by inviting others to register and participate in the challenge. Participants are required to share information about the films they’ve watched on one of the social media platforms. Under the term ‘European film,’ the Challenge encompasses films with a duration of over 52 minutes that are produced in EU member countries, MEDIA project participating countries (Iceland, Norway, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Georgia, Moldova, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Ukraine), as well as Switzerland.

The prize for the participant with the most points is a trip to Berlinale for the first part of the challenge, and trips to the Cannes Film Festival and Venice Film Festival for the second and third parts of the challenge.

We considered this project an interesting and modern way to promote European cinema, as well as the promotion of watching films in cinemas. We are exceptionally proud to be partners in this year’s #europeanfilmchallenge.
