Bosnia’s Oscar Entry BLUM-MASTERS OF THEIR OWN DESTINY Screens in Los Angeles: A Special Tribute to Producer Damir Ibrahimović

As part of SEEfest (South East European Film Festival), the documentary film BLUM: Masters of Their Own Destiny, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s official Oscar® submission, will screen today, December 3, 2025, at 7:00 PM at the Laemmle Monica Film Center in Santa Monica. The screening is dedicated to the memory of the film’s producer, Damir Ibrahimović, who passed away suddenly on October 9, 2025.

BLUM: Masters of Their Own Destiny tells the remarkable and inspiring story of Emerik Blum — an engineer, survivor of the Jasenovac concentration camp, and one of the key architects of Yugoslavia’s post-war industrial development. Through archival footage and contemporary interviews, the film traces his journey from wartime survivor to the founder of Energoinvest, one of the largest and most influential industrial systems of socialist Yugoslavia.

The tribute honors Damir Ibrahimović, one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most important film producers. Ibrahimović (1965–2025) was the founder of the production company Deblokada and produced numerous landmark films of contemporary Bosnian cinema, including Grbavica, On the Path, Men Don’t Cry, and Quo Vadis, Aida?, which was nominated for an Academy Award. His work significantly shaped and elevated the international visibility of Bosnian filmmaking.

Following the screening, a Q&A will take place with special guests Neno Pervan and tech innovators Maja and Erol Karabeg. The film will also screen simultaneously at Laemmle theaters in Glendale, Town Center, Newhall, and Claremont 5, as well as again on December 6 and 7 at the Monica Film Center, Glendale, and Claremont locations.

SEEfest in Los Angeles is one of the leading festivals dedicated to the cinemas of Southeast Europe, offering American audiences an opportunity to discover some of the region’s most distinguished contemporary works — including this outstanding Bosnian Oscar entry.
