The Bosnian-Herzegovinian Film Festival (BHFF) is pleased to announce the jury members for its 14th annual event: photojournalist Ron Haviv, author Zlata Filipović, and costume designer Amela Bakšić. The jurors will review the 2017 BHFF program and select the recipients of the festival's awards for Best Feature Film, Best Short Film and Best Documentary Film. Additionally, the 2017 BHFF will introduce for the first time a Best Acting Performance Award to honor outstanding talent in films screened at the festival. Films selected to screen at the 2017 BHFF will also be eligible to win the Golden Apple Audience Award, with winners to be announced during the festival, to be held April 13-15, 2017 at SVA Theatre.
The BHFF is currently accepting entries through February 1, 2017. The programming committee will consider narrative features, narrative shorts, documentaries, and animated films by Bosnian-Herzegovinian filmmakers and producers, as well as films with Bosnia-Herzegovina as their theme.
Over last 5 years BHFF has introduced a total of 15 jury members, representatives of Bosnian-Herzegovinian, American and international film, arts and literary communities, who have provided invaluable critical and curatorial reviews of works selected and presented at the BHFF. For 2017 BHFF welcomes its 6th film jury team:
Ron Haviv, an Emmy-nominated, award-winning photojournalist, Ron Haviv is co-founder of the agency VII, dedicated to documenting conflict and raising awareness about human rights issues around the globe.
Zlata Filipović is renowned for her book Zlata’s Diary, which she wrote at the age of 10 during the Siege of Sarajevo. It has since been translated into 36 languages and is required reading in many schools around the world.
Amela Bakšić has worked extensively as a costume designer in theater, film, and television.
