Synopsis:

1. FATHER
Early days of the war. At a freshly ploughed plot of land, German soldiers are collecting hostages - farmers from the nearby fields. One old man begs a German officer to release his sons. The officer offers to release only one of them, but the old man cannot decide which one it should be. Instead, he joins his sons and other prisoners whom the Germans are taking away to be executed. He wants to die together with his sons, but the officer denies him that right. After they execute the hostages, the German soldiers release the old man, sentencing him to spend his life alone wandering through a field sown with dead farmers.

2. SWAMP
Two soldiers are in a swamp, cut off from their unit and surrounded by enemy fighters. One of them is injured and ill. Overcome by fear and panic, he chooses to trust an enemy leaflet promising to spare the life of everyone who surrenders. His younger comrade wants to dissuade him from surrendering even at risk to his own life. He fails. German soldiers fire a machine gun. One soldier is awarded for his apathy with death in the swamp, while the other is awarded for his courage and resolve with a path to freedom.

3. RIVER ISLAND
A river divides two warring sides. Under the cover of darkness a partisan patrol crosses the river in a boat. The Chetnik soldiers greet them on the other side with machine gun fire. The next morning, the Chetniks search the area. One of them finds an injured partisan. The two men stare at each other with their guns ready. But their hands freeze on their weapons. Neither pulls the trigger. The two are father and son fighting on different sides of the war. The father does everything in his power to save his injured son. They run away in a boat. The father does not know what side of the river he should take his son to. In the end, they both drown in the middle of the river.
